Grubography. Harvest in Review.

It all started with a visit to my local food bank where I supplement my groceries for this harvest. Yes, you too, can dine on a budget. 🙂 Here’s what I brought home that led to all the inspiring dishes below.

It’s funny, as a child, my Mother would always tell me that I’d never eat my Easter Baskets because they were too pretty. I would simply stare at them for hours. Although most of these dishes are dripping with flavor and make your mouth water, I still enjoy the process of food design the most. Knowing that I will set it up for photography after these pieces are finished, keeps me on my toes when prepping the meals and I usually take better care during food prep. It becomes a process of love and artistry.

Aside as a form of art, I also use cooking as a tool for recovery, believe it or not. It is a rare moment where I can firmly plant one foot in reality and the other in fevered imagination. It is a bit like meditation for me, where my thoughts become still, yet wild and I can forget everything for some time as I create this edible art. It usually takes some time before I’m ready to dig in because, for me, it’s more about capturing the beauty than the meal itself.

Pretty soon, I’ll be lending a hand in the kitchen at a local clubhouse rehabilitation center for Mental Health. I will assist in cooking and prepping breakfasts and lunches with ingredients provided by the local community. You reap what you sow. And vice versa. Harvest is here!
